Christopher Phillips

Your Teacher

Christopher Phillips, a New York Times journalist, is an expert in creating résumés that highlight your strengths and experience. You will learn this valuable skill when we work together. You will also learn a lot about yourself!

Here’s the secret: EVERYONE HAS MANY MORE ASSETS THAN THEY THINK THEY DO! Yes, especially you!

ARE YOU READY TO HAVE A WINNING RÉSUMÉ (C.V.)?

LET’S BEGIN!

How we work

Zoom is an excellent platform for creating résumés. We can both work together in real time. We can both look at the same document at the same time. You will be amazed to see your own life and experience transform into something you can be even more proud of. More than that, you can see your personal sales document become something effective and full of impact.

The Art of Writing a Great Résumé

A résumé is more than just a list: It is a sales document! You are the product.

Like any sales document, the product needs to be presented in a way that attracts customers. An expert résumé is 100% truthful, but it is arranged to show you in the best light. You might have different résumés for different purposes and different jobs.

When I work with clients on their résumés, they are amazed by the results. Clients always find they have more relevant experience than they realized.

How We Create a Résumé Tailored to Your Needs

We begin with the résumé you already have – if you have one. If do not have one, we start from the beginning.

You tell me everything you have ever done – including the things that you think are “not important.” Framed in the right way, they can work to your advantage! Then we discuss the kind of job or opportunity you are looking for. The same experience can fit under different categories depending on what fits.

A restaurant job can be called “Restaurant Experience” if you are in that industry. Or it can be called “Customer Service.” It is customer service! The possibilities are endless.

The Golden Rule of Résumé Writing is that every detail must be accurate and honest. Every single detail! But, as a sales document, the framing is the key to success.

As an editor at The New York Times, for more than two decades, I know how to make material relevant and appealing to the reader (in this case, the person who will read your résumé).

Golden Résumé Tips

You Can Group Jobs by Topic! A résumé (C.V.) does not have to be in strict chronological order (time order). You can group jobs by subject depending on the kind of opportunity you want. A restaurant job and a phone support job or a retail store job can go into those separate categories, if that is to your advantage. Or they can all be called Customer Service. One client checked take-out orders at a restaurant. Together, we decided to call that “Quality Control.” It was quality control – but most people do not think creatively. We do, at Beautiful American English.

I’ll share many more Résumé Tips and Secrets in our sessions. Through my Résumé Writing Services, together we will present your experiences with clarity and confidence.

You will be amazed! You are better than you think! Your new résumé (C.V.) will prove that to others. It will also prove it to yourself!
