Special Relocation Services
For Expats & Families
Are you a new arrival to New York to or the United States?
First of all – WELCOME!
We wish you happiness and success in this new adventure.
At Beautiful American English, we are specialists in helping expatriates and their families feel at home.
You need a local American friend who knows the city, who knows America, and who knows how things work. That’s what we are at Beautiful American English.
Most of our meetings are on Zoom – but we can also go to meet you in person and help you deal with new and unfamiliar situations.
Here is the most important thing to know about life in the U.S.A. Everything you can imagine is available to you – but no one will help you find it! You are “on your own,” which means newcomers can feel very lost here.
At Beautiful American English, we are experts in New York, in American life and in helping you and your family make the most out of them.
Your expert, Christopher Phillips, is a fifth-generation New Yorker. I have lived in five countries. I know what it means to move across the world to a new country, new language, new climate, new customs, new ways of doing things.
It is even more challenging when you have a family.

RE YOU READY TO FEEL AT HOME IN THE U.S.?
LET’S BEGIN!
We are here to help you
As a native New Yorker, I know how the city works. I can help you with the many new and confusing things you will encounter.
I can advise you on which neighborhoods will be best for your family. I know the schools and colleges in the area. I know the markets. I know the stores. I know how to find helpers of many kinds – from painters and electricians to doctors and lawyers.
How does the transit system work? There are three different kinds of buses in New York.
Renting or buying an apartment in New York can be confusing. What is a co-op? What is a condo? What does “rent stabilized” mean? What is a sub-let? Many buildings have an application process before you can rent or buy. I can help you with that.
At Christmas, there is a complicated system of tipping building staff. I know how that works, also.
One of the things we teach at Beautiful American English is fluent, natural and confident English speaking and writing. You might need help in those areas as well.
For children: Choosing a school can be a complicated matter in New York, with interviews and application essays. We know how to help you through this process. Do your children need help in English for their schoolwork or talking with their American friends? We are here to help.
Studying English in a foreign country is not the same as speaking it every day in the United States. There are things they do not teach you in school: What are all those strange words on a breakfast menu? What are things called at the hardware store?
There are contracts to sign. What do they mean? What is a Social Security card? How do you get a driver’s license? What kind insurance do you need?
How do you chat at a party in English? Those are also things they don’t teach in school. Friendships and social situations are different here. We understand them.
I have also written a short New York Guide listing some of my favorite places and things in the area. I will be happy to share that with you.
Beautiful American English is here to help your relocation be smooth, enjoyable and successful!
